I
Was Broke and

First let me introduce myself, my name is Donna,
or as my friends call me ( and you can too) "
The Garage Sale Diva".
I'm a normal person just like you , always looking for ways to
same more money, to stretch a dollar and to get my hard earned money's
worth of everything I buy!
I work hard for my money and money
doesn't always
come that easy so thats why I am not about to over spend or
over
pay one penny more for anything than I have too. Especially when there
are places you can go that will let you stretch you dollar farther than
you can imagine.
Don't get me wrong, I am not cheap by any means but I earned
my
money so I want my money to also work for me. I like nice things. I
mean who doesn't? But I have learned how to buy certain things when the
time is just right or when the opportunity presents itself.
How It All Started
I
guess I need to tell you the story of how this all began.....
You see, I
was a
single mother recently divorced raising two young boys on my own.
I quickly found myself in the situation of having
to be the
bread winner of the family , bringing in all the money, paying the
bills and having no one to rely on but myself. This was the situation
that I found myself in.
I'm not going to
lie, it
was hard as you can imagine. I can still remember wondering what our
next meal was going to be, if the electricity was going to still be on
when I got home ( cause I was late on my bills ) or how I was going to
pay for all my expenses.
I know that many
of you
have found yourself in situations like mine before, or you may even
find yourself in a similar situation experiencing hardships. Let me
tell you , I feel your pain. I know what it's like to be there and feel
like there is now way out and the world is against you. I am so
thankful that I had my family and a few friends that helped me,
otherwise I would have failed.
Even when
someone
like myself is in a situation of being low on cash and
struggling
to pay bills I still wanted to have nice things and be able to give my
boys the things they deserve.
With the prices of
everything being so high and I being low on funds I didn't know what I
was going to do
This
Was The
Big Problem
I remember
thinking, "
How can I afford all these things"? I couldn't afford to go to the big
retail department stores and buy all those nice things. That wasn't
even my goal. At this point in time all I wanted to do was get by!
How was I a
single
mother going to be able to afford the things in life that I wanted but
more importantly the things that I knew my children wanted and needed.
This was a huge burden on my mind. I had to find a way.
I remember hearing
some
of my friends and family members mention to me the great finds and the
deals they discovered at Garage Sales. Ocassionally they would ask me
to join them, but I would quite nicely tell them "No"!
But one day that
all changed...
I
Discovered The Answer Right in Front of Me
I
had this vision of garage sales in my head that was so far from the
truth. I didn't believe at that point that there was anything at a
garage sale worth buying.
My thoughts were
that
garage sales were full of nothing but junk that no one wanted, things
that people just pulled out in there yards hoping that someone would
give them money for it and haul it away because they were too lazy too
haul it off themselves.
To be quite honest
( and
I have know lots of people like this before they discovered the truth)
and you may have thought this at some point but....I kind of
thought that if things were not new then it wasn't as good.
That
is what we have been taught since we were children. New always equals
better. Right?
Well, how wrong
was I?
I eventually
decided
that I was going to try this "garage sale" thing that I had been
hearing about. So I went to a few garage sales to see what
the
fuss was all about. Do you want to know what I
found out?
I found out that
what I
pictured in my mind about Garage Sales was totally wrong.
These
sales were not places where people only had junk to sell or old dirty
broken items. These were people who had things they just didn't use or
want anymore. I found so many items for sale with the tags still on
them from the store.
Once I discovered
the
power and money saving potential of garage sales I quiclky became a
believer. I love spending a couple of hours each weekend going to these
sales and seeing what I can find, what I can buy and how much I can
save.
As I began to see
my way to save
$1000's of dollars by doing
my research and attending Garage
sales.....
I still had
one problem.....
I
Discovered A New Problem & My Solution
I
now had another problem that needed to be solved. This problem goes
hand in hand with my first one but it required a new solution.
I needed
some extra
money
but I didn't know where I was going to get it. I already had a job so I
could always work more hours to bring in more
money.
But working more
hours
meant spending more time away from my kids, which I did not want to do.
I was saving so much money and acquiring unbelievable deals at garage
sales , which was great, but I needed money to come in
This problem
really
presented itself one year around Easter. I wanted to buy my
two
boys some new outfits for Easter Sunday. However I did not have the
money to do so at the time. I looked all over for a good deal or some
outfits for my boys.
Then one day it
hit me!
I saw all the money saving potential of garage sales but I was totally
overlooking the money making potential of having them.
So, Guess what I
did?
You guessed it. I
had a
garage sale to raise some money. I had things in my home that I was no
longer using that was in great shape. I knew that someone else could
have great benefit from these items.
I planned a
weekend
before Easter to have this Garage Sale and I did. I made more than
enough money to buy my kids the new Easter outfits. Having this garage
sale help me to put the starting pieces together so that I
eventually perfected my skill and why I have become known as.....
"The Garage

When I first
began attending garage sales or even having my own
I made
lots of mistakes, not just any mistakes like knock something over, but
mistakes that actually cost me
money.
